#PFW Nicholas Ghesquiere Reboots Louis Vuitton

Nicholas Ghesquiere presented his Louis Vuitton Spring 2015 collection from the depths of the soon to be opened Louis Vuitton Foundation, located in a magnificent purpose built Frank Ghery creation in the middle of Bois de Boulogne, Eastern Paris. The runway show may have marked the close of Paris Fashion Week for the season, but it was a moment of firsts for the luxury house - not only the big reveal of the Foundation and it's glass and steel home, but also an opportunity for the new Creative Director to clearly put his stamp on the brand.

“A beginning is a very delicate time” spoke many young faces projected onto glass screens as part of the runway staging and concept (also designed by Ghery). This is merely the second collection following Ghesquiere's appointment at Louis Vuitton, yet he has already made a very literal mark on the fashion house with the introduction of a new LV logo. Futuristic and metallic - much like the staging and the building which held the show, the silver hardware is a striking embellishment, and suggests the renowned predilection Ghesquiere has for sci-fi and space age aesthetics.

The logo reboot happens to take pride of place in hammered silver on the side of the foundation's architectural exterior, and will likely be the logo associated with future prêt à porter collections and the luxury house's new direction. Fear not, the classic monogram won't be going anywhere fast! Louis Vuitton's collaborations with Ghery appear to be never ending, as the architect recently guest-designed an LV bag titled Twisted Box for the Iconoclast Collection celebrating the LV monogram. A well-earned place alongside Karl Lagerfeld, Rei Kawakubo & Christian Louboutin and a host of other notable designers in their fields.

Vanity Fair wrote a wonderful essay on the 'Age of Ghery' and his many contributions to modern architecture [Read here]. It seems he was the only man for the job when it came to the LVMH Group's desire to create “a haute couture building” on the outskirts of Paris.
